Description:
The objective of this solicitation is to receiveapplications for cost-sharedresearch projects directed at minimizing freshwater use and consumption inthegeneration of coal-based thermoelectric power. Specifically, thesolicitationwill provide for the development of cost-effective solutions to emergingregulations and restrictions on water use and impacts on water qualityassociated with the generation of electricity by coal-fired power plants.Allapplications should clearly describe how a successful project will resultincost savings to operators and the magnitude of those savings relative toexisting technology. The solicitation supports the overall goal of theDepartment of Energy/Office of Fossil Energy?s Innovations for ExistingPlants(IEP) Program to develop advanced technology and knowledgeable productsthatenhance the environmental performance of the existing fleet of coal-firedpowerplants.
